An ideal location for exploring the Mendips and Somerset

C & M, New South Wales

The Dairy cottage has an enviable situation for a holiday cottage in Somerset. We are based in Westbury-sub-Mendip (view map), a beautiful and ancient village with conservation area status, 4 miles from both Wells and Cheddar. The village follows a stream, down from the hills through a small rocky gorge, where old stone houses and walls seem to grow out of the boulders.

The Dairy is peacefully situated, away from busy roads, yet just two minute’s walk from the thriving village shop, 2 bus stops with hourly buses and the village inn, offering good food - and fantastic stargazing on a clear night as you walk back from the pub! You can get a taste of local life at our village website.

Westbury-sub-Mendip is on the south slopes of the Mendip hills an area of outstanding natural beauty, full of breathtaking walks, fascinating caves and gorges. On a clear day the views are stupendous, across the sea at Weston super Mare to the coast of Wales. The village overlooks the Somerset levels, a bewitching area of flat, wetlands, drained by the many waterways called rhynes. The levels are rich in bird and wildlife and perfect for cycling along the network of flat straight lanes, everywhere you go you’ll see the mystical Glastonbury Tor dominating the landscape.
